MAX PRICE 250,000 Dollars. Which is around 1,1 million DKR
I just sold my E350 Bluetec Estate to a man from germany. So I need a new daily driver.
No Miata's ;) No kids, so every vehicle is possible, new, old, everything. HELP ME opponauts!
EDIT: As you guys have been pointing out, you might need some specific requirements
1: Overall fun car
2: Decent handling
3: Decent top speed
4: Decent comfort
5: Mileage and fuel consumption really doesn't matter, as my daily route is 15 km.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:37 |
|
What are your requirements? This can go a lot of different ways, here...
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:37 |
|
Are you looking for a specific kind of car? Because the range of choice you're proposing goes from a TVR Tuscan to a Honda FRV.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:38 |
|
How much does a 735d cost where you live?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:38 |
|
Normally this is my thing but I don't really know much about the German car market.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:38 |
|
I'm in the US so I'm not sure what a 735d goes for, but how about a BMW 335i? You can tune them to well over 400/400, they get better mileage than an M3, and you can get it in a sedan, coupe, convertible, and I believe wagon in Europe.
Also, 135i.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:38 |
|
What kind of cars do you like? Handling over comfort or the other way around? Diesel/gasoline?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:38 |
|
I can't help, because I'm American and until this very moment had no idea BMW made a 735d.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:38 |
|
how much is a 735d?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:39 |
|
The car just have to be able as a daily driver, thats basically it. We don't have any extreme weathers in Denmark, so it could be anything from a Smart fortwo to a BMW X5.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:39 |
|
Oh... Europe only I guess
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:40 |
|
Around 250,000 $ with pretty decent trim.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:41 |
|
I have a merc in the garage already, thats kinda my comfort cruiser, but I really can't chose between comfort, or handling, I like both. Petrol is favored as I don't pendle, I have around 15 kilometers to my job.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:42 |
|
Probably about as much as the i version.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:42 |
|
Exactly, I'm open for absolutely anything
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:43 |
|
Looking at the German BMW site they don't, although there were previous versions like that. There's a 2014 730d, 740d and 750d though.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:43 |

" every vehicle is possibl e"... indeed?

What are some things you're looking for (mileage requirements, fun to drive factor, versatility, speed, etc.)? ...Or are you going Doug DeMuro style on us?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:44 |
|
INDEED, as long as it can qualify as a daily driver, and can be bought in Europe.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:45 |
|
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:46 |
|
I'll assume he can afford a used 2010 735d then.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:46 |
|
mileage doesn't matter, but it has to be a slightly fun car overall, and has to have a decent top speed(autobahn fun)
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:46 |
|
He's in Denmark. As if that helps any more haha
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:47 |
|
But you should be MORE specific, because I could go posting a Merc A series, a Smart fortwo, Ford Ka, etc. etc., but given you suggest you can afford a 7 series, you probably won't want any of the aforementioned...
What matters to you?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:47 |
|
Bit too expensive at the moment! But gaaaaahhh that RS7, I'm drooling.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:48 |
|
do they sell the CTSV Wagon over there?!
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:49 |
|
OK I CAN HELP NOW!
250,000 DKK is about $45,000 USD. For that NEW you can get a BMW 2-Series or any number of 1-Series. I'd suggest a nice 1M for a small sporty daily driver or an E92 335i Coupe. You might be able to get an E90 M3, but I'm not sure what they go for in Denmark.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:49 |
|
How about a Jaguar XF-R? Perhaps the new F-type if you want less doors? I really like what Jag has been doing lately and it'd be something different from driving a German again.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:50 |
|
Oh wait, I meant 250,000 dollars
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:50 |

How about the Maserati Ghibli? Sub 5 second 0-60, 175mph top speed
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:51 |

For all the Americans $250,000 DKK is about $45,000 USD
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:51 |

I actually test-drove the XF Sportbrake one week ago. Mixed feelings to be honest.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:52 |

Does it have to be new?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:53 |

Oops, its 250,000 Dollars :)
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:53 |

![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:53 |

You have $250k USD to spend on a daily driver? Damn.
Fuck it. Get a Spyker C8.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:54 |
|
Your price tag is $250,000 USD? or roughly $1,377,000 DKK?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:54 |

Now we can talk! the fiesta and alpina haven't even crossed my mind! Hard to get by, but I'm tempted, thanks man.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:55 |

Exactly.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:55 |

Trust me, my job is the most boring thing in the world, family business kills your moral...
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:56 |

Well, thats a bit of a different story then.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:56 |

No problem, I just thought of cars I can't get here in America (we only get the 5 door Fiesta here)
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:56 |

Sorry, I thought the dollar sign meant dollars and not money, my mistake.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 16:57 |

I don't even have a HOUSE budget that big.

Majority of cars are sedans, but your hatchbacks comes with 5-doors. Weird logic. Anyway, don't feel sad, alot of us-only cars I would love to see over the pond.

Porsche 991 Turbo ($180,000 USD Base).
Fun: 10

and it does have 4 seats should the need arrise
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:03 |

Well, my house is pretty pretty average, as average as you can get in Denmark, I just priorities my cars higher.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:05 |

991 turbo cost around 600,000 dollars, or around 3,5 DKR. Impossbile, but a 997 would be a opportunity.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:06 |

There's a clean one for sale in Lisbon, Portugal (if you're willing to travel down here, that is). €32.5K, 66,000 km.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:07 |

Thought about it, and it could be a fun project car. Thanks for the heads up
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:07 |

Too expensive, sadly!
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:08 |
|
Wow those are some pricey taxes. What would a carrera go for?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:11 |
|
993 base carrera, around 450,000 dollars. 180% taxes on cars...
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:11 |
|
Here's the worst picture of a Spyker C8 ever to exist (that must be worth something, right?!).
It's at a high end car dealership close to my apartment in San Francisco. It's currently all uncovered and opened up and sexy looking. Tons of cool porsches in there too....I need to actually stop and click a few proper pictures sometime!
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:11 |
|
That's stretching the budget, but could be possible. Looking at Cadillac.de and BMW.de it costs about as much as a base 7-series. I don't know about Danish prices though.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:13 |
|
Pretty sure they haven't been launched in Denmark yet, but if I had to choose, I would rather have a used Quattroporte instead.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:14 |
|
180%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:14 |
|
Such a rare car.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:15 |
|
Everything can be bought in Europe. You can import anything you'd like and register it legally with minor modifications, assuming it's a street legal not overly modded car in a country like the US, Japan or Australia. If you can't in Denmark I'm sure you could via Germany or Sweden or something.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:15 |
|
You read that correct, its insane, and basically impossible to be a petrolhead.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:16 |
|
A CTS-V costs more than a quarter of a million dollars where you live? Ouch.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:17 |
|
I'm aware of this, Its just a struggle to register a new car into Denmark, and impossible to have a clue what the price would be to get it on danish plates. The only thing I can say is, its a bit problematic to register cars from abroad.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:17 |
|
4 doors for practicality, and possibly one of the last chances to get a naturally aspirated V8 in a European performance car. Fast, but not ludicrous, and pretty understated stock. Plus, 8k RPM redline V8. Plus, if for some reason you decide it's not fast enough, $100K will buy a lot of speed parts, with plenty left over for fuel and tires and trackdays.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:18 |
|
Yep, I crack my neck everytime a high-end german car is visible. That is the best description of the taxes.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:20 |
|
Thats just not even fair!
That being said, I looked at your websites for pricing, a Parsche Cayman S is pretty much the top of your limit. would still be a very fun car. That being said, the Audi S4 fits very well into what you are looking for.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:20 |
|
It have crossed my mind as I adore the M3's, they are rare as F' here, and its definitely qualified.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:23 |
|
If you don't mind me asking, where exactly is "here"?
And really, it's either this or a Ferrari 355 with a gated shifter. There are no other options. :-P
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:24 |
|
Trust me, the only bright spot is that you are more likely to smile every time you see a M3 or even just a big executive car.
I looked at one not long time ago, as my father just bought a 993 Carrera S slightly used(Yes I still buy cars with my father, as I'm only 24 years old). Didn't get a run in the Cayman, but it surely is beautiful.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:25 |
|
Oh, Denmark, a real TAX hell, but it has its fair benefits with free education and healthcare.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:27 |
|
Oh yeah, geez that's tough from a car buyer's point of view. Great from most other perspectives though. :)
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:31 |
|
Totally, but the hard-working part of the society gets a knee to the face, although, we have very low poverty, but also kinda high rates of unemployment.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:31 |
|
Understandable. If they depreciate as badly as they do here in the States, you can get a great car for not a lot of money.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:33 |
|
They do, but because of the taxes, your eyes would still pop out if I told you the price for a well used one(136,000)
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:35 |
|
Be a little adventurous, import a C7 Stingray!
On a less biased and probably more realistic note, I suggest a Cayman. Even translating your budget into US pricing, that's quite a bit of buying power you have and I honestly don't know what you would find adequate. I'm more of a sucker for late 80s to mid-90s cars, and at that I'd suggest a used F355 since I generally prefer Italian flair to German precision. I'm not sure how the import duties would affect that, buying from somewhere else in Europe, since your government's tax website is a nightmare to navigate.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:36 |
|
That's how much one costs new here!
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:37 |
|
Good suggestions! The c7 is still out of reach(180% tax on cars) but a F355 is tempting, but I doubt I can use it as a daily driver the whole year, mainly because at work, we don't have a udnerground garage, so it would be a shame to let it sit in the rain and snow for 9-10 hours every weekday.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:38 |
|
And remember its the last generation of it... Trust me, i'm moving as soon as I find another job.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:43 |
|
Import a GT500, it;s the most fun you can have for the money assuming you think tearing up rear tires all day is fun. Either way, it will be unique in Denmark, rare, and an experience to own.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:44 |
|
And the depreciation would ruin me. But a good suggestion, now, with the new generation mustang, which is going to be sold all over the world, I think the rarity would fall. But I might be able to find a good used one in Germany.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:51 |
|
I saw the 180% tax, I just don't know what to apply that to. I know a loaded Z51 3LT Stingray costs roughly USD 74000 over here, and applying the tax to that comes out to USD 133,200 (~DKR 586,080). I saw that Andersen & Martini Exclusive has...exclusive...rights to sell Corvettes in Denmark, so that may be getting in the way of buying one from a US dealer and then importing it.
As for the Ferrari, I daily drive a sporty car myself (a black C4 Corvette, not a Ferrari, but I baby it just the same) and throw a cover on it. As you may have gathered, we've got snow and nasties going on here in the mid-Atlantic region, but I don't mind putting the effort in. In your position, I would do the same since I love the F355 and having the ability to afford to own one would make me ecstatic.
What kind of car would you have less qualms about leaving out in the elements at work?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 17:54 |
|
The base price for a C7 would be around 400,000 dollars, which is 2,0 million DKR. Well, a bit less expensive would do it, or even a tat newer. If i had a garage at work I would go with the F355, but to leave it out " in the elements" Is harsh for me.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:16 |
|
Comfortable if the roads are nice/how much are these?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:17 |
|
Just around 200,000 dollars(nearly 1 million DKR) with low mileage.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:24 |
|
Okay then! You'll have lots of fun in this and it handles great. Decently comfortable: don't buy if the roads you drive on are not perfectly paved.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:28 |
|
Would depreciation kill you? It is the last Shelby Mustang that Carroll ever saw, and it might be the last GT500. The new Mustang will probably be less powerful and won't go 200 mph, and might be called GT350 instead of GT500 so this car will always have some collector value even in Europe.
Of course, waiting for the new Mustang to be imported over there is probably a better financial decision. But, this thing is cooler than the next "normal" Mustang, it will be rare, and it is the most powerful Mustang ever built. It's the cheapest hp money can buy from the factory (at least in America) and the cheapest way to get into the 200 mph club.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:32 |
|
True, but, I might need to point this out, I'm 24 years old entrepreneur, and employee at our family business, which is the only reason I can afford such expensive cars. But, but, but, I'm still under the age of 25, which, in Denmark that is, puts me in the high-risk drivers category insurance wise, so a car with over 650 odd hp no insurance company would let me do it. SADLY. I could wait a years time, but i'm in desperate need of a new daily driver.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:37 |
|
But if I told you I could get a nearly brand new M5 F10 for that price, would you still choose the Elise?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:43 |
|
Oh, well I assumed someone looking to drop a quarter million dollars on a car could afford to insure a $60k Mustang. You could look into a Boss if the power is a problem.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:45 |
|
You are right, its not a problem by paying, but a problem by the insurance company not letting me. Its a paradox.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:47 |
|
What? They won't let you insure the car, for any amount of money? What the fuck. In the US the insurance companies will bend you over but they will still take the money.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:49 |
|
Nope, its different over here, mainly because I'm in the high-risk group, which mainly means I'm a "un-experienced driver" in the registry. And therefore I'm more likely to have a crash, and risk others lives, and there just isn't any way to sweet-talk when your car outputs over 600 horsepower.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:50 |
|
And the car would go for around 200,000 dollars after taxes.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:52 |
|
Are you sure about that? Call and get a quote on the car. If you can't do it I'm sure JalOppo would love a story on this communist policy.
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:53 |
|
That's insane. How do people stay off the streets in that country? Is there no income or property tax and they just hate cars?
![]() 01/22/2014 at 18:57 |
|
Tax is heavy on cars(180%) and its one of the main income sources for the government, but it does means we have free healthcare and education. And yes, the government hate cars, and a lot of people use public transport if necessary.
